Stevie Wonder, who had quit MoTown in 1970 to record two independent albums for himself, was shocked to learn this. Berry Gordy was shocked when Stevie Wonder told him this. Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's request for more freedom and creative control over all his songs. Stevie Wonder signed a 13 million dollars MoTown Records contract in 1972. The contract entitled Stevie Wonder to a higher royalty rate and more full creative control and rights to his own tracks, that very few artists had in that period. This contract unleashed Wonder's songs to speak about controversial topics such as war, poverty, drugs as well as politics.Stevie is famous for his songs about politics, including You Haven't Do Nothing, which was a political attack at Richard Nixon. The album released in 1972, Music Of My Mind was the first album to be released under his brand new MoTown deal. Talking Book was Stevie Wonder's album from late in 1972. It's still a major piece of music. Which included the number one hit single, Superstition.
